Education:

Dr. Mehe Rahman completed their Ph.D. in Materials Processing at the Graduate School of Engineering, Tohoku University, from October 2012 to September 2015, under the supervision of Prof. Takayuki Narushima, achieving a GPA of 4.00/4.00. Prior to this, they were a Ph.D. Candidate in Material and Manufacturing Engineering at Istanbul Technical University from September 2010 to June 2012, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Celaletdin Ergun, with a GPA of 3.42/4.00. They also hold an M.S. in Material and Manufacturing Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (September 2008 to June 2010) and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Yildiz Technical University (September 2004 to June 2008), with GPAs of 3.38/4.00 and 3.06/4.00, respectively.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Dr. Mehe Rahman has extensive professional experience in academia and research. They currently serve as an Assistant Professor at the Division of Material and Manufacturing Science, Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, since April 2023, where they are involved in instruction, teaching material science classes related to 3D printing of metals and alloys, and supervising Ph.D., Master, and Bachelor students. Concurrently, since October 2016, they have also been an Assistant Professor at the Additive Manufacturing Research and Development Center, Osaka University, Osaka, Japan. In this role, they oversee the operation and maintenance of EOS M290 SLM and Arcam Q10 EBM machines, provide instruction and assistance to students using additive manufacturing equipment and software, develop new metallic alloys for additive manufacturing, conduct research on microstructure control via SLM/EBM, and collaborate with industrial leaders on research and development of metallic material properties for automotive, aerospace, and biomedical industries. Prior to their current positions, Dr. Rahman was a JSPS Post-Doctoral Researcher at Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan, from October 2015 to September 2016, where they conducted research on Ag-containing calcium phosphate coatings and participated in extensive training in TEM techniques. They also served as a Research Assistant at Tohoku University from October 2012 to September 2015, focusing on Ag-containing calcium phosphate ceramics. Additionally, they worked as a Research/Teaching Assistant at Istanbul Technical University, Istanbul, Türkiye, from January 2009 to September 2012, where they taught courses, instructed laboratory courses, advised undergrad student projects, and led research projects in the field of biomedical applications.

SKILLS:

Dr. Mehe Rahman possesses a diverse range of technical skills and expertise in materials science and engineering. They have hands-on experience in Additive Manufacturing with SLM+MPM (EOS M290) and EBM (Arcam Q10), along with proficiency in microstructure characterization and investigation of various properties of 3D printed materials. Their skills also include the synthesis of nanoparticles using precipitation and sol-gel methods, as well as expertise in bulk material forming using hot pressing and conventional sintering. They are knowledgeable in thin-film coating by RF Sputtering, bio-ceramics coating by the electrostatic spray method, and plasma nitriding of stainless steel, CoCrMo alloys, titanium, and titanium alloys. Dr. Rahman is also experienced in assessing the mechanical properties of bulk materials and coatings. Furthermore, they are well-versed in material characterization techniques such as Optical Microscope (OM), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDX), Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD), Electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) for thin film, bulk, and powder analysis, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Rietveld Refinement, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF), and Raman spectroscopy. Dr. Rahman also has experience in conducting in vitro experiments, including dissolution processes, antibacterial experiments, and cytotoxicity experiments.

Honor and Awards:

  • Student Award for Outstanding Presentation at the 2013 Spring Meeting of the Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy in Tokyo, Japan. The award was received for the presentation titled “Synthesis and characterization of Ag-containing calcium phosphates” by O. Gokcekaya et al.
  • Outstanding Presentation Award at the International Symposium on EcoTopia Science and AMDI-4 (ISETS13) in Nagoya, Japan, in December 2013. The award was received for the presentation titled “Ag distribution in calcium phosphates with various Ca/P ratios” by O. Gokcekaya et al.
