Américo Scotti stands as a luminary in the realm of Mechanical Engineering, his illustrious career punctuated by groundbreaking contributions to Arc Welding Processes and Additive Manufacturing. Born on April 4, 1955, in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil, Scotti embarked on his academic journey at Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais, earning his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from 1975 to 1979. He furthered his studies, obtaining a Master’s degree with a specialization in Manufacturing from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina between 1980 and 1982. His thirst for knowledge led him to Cranfield Institute of Technology in England, where he earned his PhD in Welding Technology from 1987 to 1991.

Throughout his career, Scotti’s research has been at the vanguard of Arc Welding Processes, spanning from fundamental arc physics to advanced process automation and parametric optimization.
