👨‍🎓 Prof Dr. Takashiro Akitsu is a seasoned professional with nearly two decades of global experience in higher education and business. Education:

I obtained my B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1995 from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Osaka University, Japan. Subsequently, I pursued my M.Sc. in Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, graduating in 1997 from the Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, Osaka University, Japan. Continuing my academic journey, I completed my Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2000, also at Osaka University, with a thesis titled “Studies on structures and electronic states of copper(II) complexes with imidate ligands.” During my doctoral research, I was under the supervision of Prof. Yoshihiko Kushi and Prof. Seiko Komorita. My research involved the preparation of metal complexes, X-ray crystallography, (polarized) electronic spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations using the AOM method.

 

Academic Carrier :

From 2000 to 2002, I served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University, Japan, under the guidance of Prof. Tomitake Tsukihara. During this time, my focus was on the structural biology and bioinorganic chemistry of metalloproteins, with a specific emphasis on conducting X-ray crystallography studies of cytochrome c oxidase.

Following my postdoctoral position, I worked as a Research Associate at the Department of Chemistry, Keio University, Japan, from 2002 to 2007, under the supervision of Prof. Yasuaki Einaga. Here, my research centered on photo-magnetic metal complexes and their applications in nano-scaled functional materials. I specifically investigated Prussian blue analogues and other metal complexes during this period. Additionally, I briefly held the position of Assistant Professor at Keio University from 2007 to 2008.

In 2007, I expanded my research experience by taking on the role of Visiting Scholar at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, Stanford University, USA, under the mentorship of Prof. Edward I. Solomon. During this time, I focused on bioinorganic spectroscopy of multicopper oxidase

Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in various editorial and committee roles in the field of chemistry, contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and publication. Here is a summary of my professional contributions:

  • From 1997 to 1999, I served as the Manager of the Young Coordination Chemist’s Association Japan, Kinki branch, where I played a key role in fostering collaboration and networking among young professionals in the field of coordination chemistry.
  • In 2006 and 2007, I served as a Guest Editor for a special issue of Metal Based Drugs, leveraging my expertise to curate and contribute to the publication of research in this area.
  • In 2009, I extended my editorial contributions as a Guest Editor for a special issue of Asian Chemistry Letters, showcasing my commitment to promoting impactful research.
  • Since 2009, I have been an esteemed member of the Editorial Board of Asian Chemistry Letters, contributing my expertise to the publication process and ensuring the quality of scientific content.

In December 2014, I was honored with the Dr. Radhakanta Kajal Sen Merit Scholarship Award at the 4th World Science Congress held at Jadavpur University, recognizing my significant contributions to the field of science. In June 2018, I received a Certificate of Recognition for delivering a keynote lecture at Chemical Science 2018, organized by EuroSciCon. I hold a Professional Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Institute of Technological Research (IPT), SP, which I completed in 2020. Prior to this, I pursued a Post-Graduate program in Structural Engineering at the Moura Lacerda Institute (IML) in 2015. My educational journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the School of Engineering of Piracicaba (EEP), SP, which I attained in 2000. Additionally, I am fluent in English, which enhances my ability to work in international settings and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Qualification:

I am a senior professional with 25 years of experience in project management and consulting within the civil engineering sector, specializing in structural analysis using steel for various building types including residential, commercial, and predominantly industrial structures. My expertise spans across industries such as Gas and Oil, Rubber, Textile, Sugar alcohol, Metallurgical, and Mining. I have demonstrated competence in managing Marketing and Technology Projects, conducting market studies aligned with business strategies, and consistently seeking to expand market share and capitalize on new sales opportunities, particularly within the global construction sector. My skill set includes the ability to develop technology and innovation projects in collaboration with customers, end-users, universities, and government entities. Since January 2019, I have served as a Market Development Specialist at CBMM, where my focus has been on expanding the global niobium market in civil construction. This involves managing an annual R&D budget of R$ 2 million, leading a team of 10 individuals across Brazil, China, and the USA, and reporting to the Global Executive Manager of Market and Development. My previous role involved spearheading the creation of a Technology Center for welding in the Oil and Gas pipeline industry, which resulted in significant market growth. I have also managed technology projects worldwide, collaborated with universities and industry stakeholders, and coordinated civil construction market studies in various regions. Additionally, I have been heavily involved in R&D projects with renowned universities and institutes, emphasizing structural steel performance. Prior to this, I served as an Industrial Project Coordinator for CBMM, where I managed civil engineering projects and oversaw the expansion of the company’s production capacity. My responsibilities included contract management, budgeting, and community engagement. Earlier in my career, I worked as a Structural Engineering Manager at TECNAÇO, where I led engineering teams and managed the analysis of steel structure designs. During this time, I developed expertise in codes for steel and composite structures and built strong relationships within the steel construction industry. Before that, I worked as an Independent Structural Engineer, focusing on industrial building projects and specializing in the reinforcement of old structures using innovative techniques.
