👨‍🎓 Prof Dr. Takashiro Akitsu is a seasoned professional with nearly two decades of global experience in higher education and business. As the Director of the UAEU (CBE) Off-Campus Site in Abu Dhabi, he currently serves as the MBA program coordinator, overseeing industry-oriented post-graduate programs and the Executive Education Unit.

Education:

I obtained my B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1995 from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Osaka University, Japan. Subsequently, I pursued my M.Sc. in Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, graduating in 1997 from the Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, Osaka University, Japan. Continuing my academic journey, I completed my Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2000, also at Osaka University, with a thesis titled “Studies on structures and electronic states of copper(II) complexes with imidate ligands.” During my doctoral research, I was under the supervision of Prof. Yoshihiko Kushi and Prof. Seiko Komorita. My research involved the preparation of metal complexes, X-ray crystallography, (polarized) electronic spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations using the AOM method.

 

Academic Carrier :

From 2000 to 2002, I served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University, Japan, under the guidance of Prof. Tomitake Tsukihara. During this time, my focus was on the structural biology and bioinorganic chemistry of metalloproteins, with a specific emphasis on conducting X-ray crystallography studies of cytochrome c oxidase.

Following my postdoctoral position, I worked as a Research Associate at the Department of Chemistry, Keio University, Japan, from 2002 to 2007, under the supervision of Prof. Yasuaki Einaga. Here, my research centered on photo-magnetic metal complexes and their applications in nano-scaled functional materials. I specifically investigated Prussian blue analogues and other metal complexes during this period. Additionally, I briefly held the position of Assistant Professor at Keio University from 2007 to 2008.

In 2007, I expanded my research experience by taking on the role of Visiting Scholar at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, Stanford University, USA, under the mentorship of Prof. Edward I. Solomon. During this time, I focused on bioinorganic spectroscopy of multicopper oxidase

Activities:

Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in various editorial and committee roles in the field of chemistry, contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and publication. Here is a summary of my professional contributions:

  • From 1997 to 1999, I served as the Manager of the Young Coordination Chemist’s Association Japan, Kinki branch, where I played a key role in fostering collaboration and networking among young professionals in the field of coordination chemistry.
  • In 2006 and 2007, I served as a Guest Editor for a special issue of Metal Based Drugs, leveraging my expertise to curate and contribute to the publication of research in this area.
  • In 2009, I extended my editorial contributions as a Guest Editor for a special issue of Asian Chemistry Letters, showcasing my commitment to promoting impactful research.
  • Since 2009, I have been an esteemed member of the Editorial Board of Asian Chemistry Letters, contributing my expertise to the publication process and ensuring the quality of scientific content.
  • Additionally, I have been an active member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Current Chemistry since 2009, where I have played a crucial role in shaping the direction of the journal and maintaining its high standards.

In 2010, I delivered an outstanding invited lecture at GTGE2010, the international conference on green chemistry in India, where I showcased my expertise and contributed to the exchange of knowledge in the field.

In December 2014, I was honored with the Dr. Radhakanta Kajal Sen Merit Scholarship Award at the 4th World Science Congress held at Jadavpur University, recognizing my significant contributions to the field of science. In June 2018, I received a Certificate of Recognition for delivering a keynote lecture at Chemical Science 2018, organized by EuroSciCon. This recognition underscored the impact of my contributions to the conference and the field of chemical science.

From February 2019 to July 2022, I pursued my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. My dissertation focused on enhancing the tribological performance of rapeseed bio-lubricants using modified Eichhornia crassipes nanoparticles additives. Prior to this, I completed my Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering with a Thermo-fluid option at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, from April 2014 to June 2017. My academic journey began with a Bachelor of Engineering in Marine Engineering from Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, Nigeria, which I completed from March 2003 to November 2008.

 

EXPERIENCE:

From February 2019 to July 2022, I pursued my doctoral studies at the Automotive Development Centre, School of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. My research focused on the tribological performance enhancement of rapeseed bio-lubricants using modified Eichhornia crassipes nanoparticles additives. Since September 2018, I have been serving as a Lecturer in the Department of Marine/Mechanical Engineering at Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. In this role, I have taught courses such as Power Plant Engineering, Engineering Thermodynamics, and Thermo-fluid Engineering. Additionally, I have worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for Advanced Research on Energy, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, Hang Tuah Jaya, 76100, Durian Tunggal, Melaka, Malaysia, focusing on the formulation and testing of eco-friendly nano-lubricants for electric vehicle applications.

RESEARCH INTEREST:

My expertise lies in the field of tribology, which encompasses various aspects of friction, lubrication, and wear in mechanical systems. I have specialized knowledge in bio-lubricants, particularly in their formulation and application. My research includes the development of additives using nanotechnology to enhance the performance of lubricants. Additionally, I have studied the effects of dry friction and wear on different materials, with a focus on understanding surface modification techniques to improve their tribological properties.
